My dad have a small shop at chinatown area. Currently its being rented out. But my family couldnt totally depend on the $ from the rent for a living. Thought of getting back the shop and not renting out to others. But doesnt know what business should i do nex time. Food/drinks stuffs are not allowed to be sold.
Can anyone recommend what should i sell? i thought of opening a CD shop, but sharing music thru msn is such a common practice now so opening a CD shop might not be a good idea. And usually teenagers would frequent bugis rather than chinatown. So selling stuffs for just teenagers age type might not be profitable..

There is already a sex shop at lucky Chinatown... that place is also full of souvenir shops so opening another one is not a good idea. Chinatown not much entertainment area... maybe open lan shop bah... tourist can go email, kids can go pa lan games.
Alternatively, no one says u need to totally depend on rental fees. Why not find an easy job to earn a little and use the rent as supplement?

CD shop is out....
Apparels is ok, but you have to think what makes your shop unique that attracts people to patronise your shop. Nice and cheap clothes/accessories? Where can you get the goods?
What are the stuffs people are sellin in that area near ur shop? ok you say CD clothes food souvenir.. do you want to sell the same stuffs as em? if yes what would you do to make sure customers to flock to ur shop instead of others?
Who are the people that hang around there? Caucasians/foreigners? Who are your target market?
personally i think just continue renting the shop.... and find other things to do
just some suggestions....

Depends on the target audience. What are the type of ppl that frequent ur area. If there are more old folks, then I suggest selling auntie clothes. Those aunties may flock to ur shop for cheap clothes. Lol.
But I think the best is just use the shop for rental purpose. U never know whether the business will be good although there are alot of crowds. But it's up to u if u wish to take the risk.
